Saint Vasilije followed the steps of the ascetic and hermit Jesaya, finding the cave where Jesaya prayed. Right from these times, in this very cave there is Gornja Crkva (The Upper Church), consecrated to The Saint Cross. The Upper Monastery is made of the little Church of The Saint Cross, built in the year 1665, and the Church of Saint Vavedenije (Introduction) the founding year of which cannot be established with any certainty, and which according to legends was established by hermits even before Saint Vasilije came. The outside dimensions somehow remember to a Byzantine five-domed church, with small domes in the corners of an inscribed cross. The architect-builder is unknown, but the mosque must have been built by Dalmatian builders and stonemasons.
